I went into this night mostly obsessed with him (he's African, grew up in England, sung in a boy band and now sings with my mission president's son on Reflections of Christ... really, what's not to love?), but now I am totally obsessed. It's okay, though. I told him already. I am sure that made him feel much better to hear that.
This man was 36 by the time he married and had made most of the mistakes that LDS singles make, most particularly the worry over the "how". He compared it to a farmer that plants the seed, and then leaves the plant to grow. He asked us how often don't do as the farmer because we plant and then sit and watch and then sigh and then plead with the Lord to hurry the process along. He is the one that takes care of the how, and asks us to trust Him. It's when we allow the how to occupy our thoughts that we get into trouble. For example, as Peter was walking on water, the panic came as he took His eyes from the Lord and began to fret the how of his stroll on tumultuous waters.
This concept is of course applicable to any age, situation and stage in life. He told the story of a friend of his whose business was failing. Alex asked him what he was going to do about it, and his friend told him that he was going to go on vacation. Then Alex expressively told of his awe by stating, "You're business is failing, and you're going to take your Afro on a vacation?!"
Wow.
1) Can I be black, and 2) what faith. His friend told him that the Lord who wanted his business to be successful more than he did knew how to make it successful. As a result, his friend returned from a trip to find sales once again booming. Because of his great faith, the Lord was then able to honor it and bless him.
Cool, huh? So, next time you find yourself (or I find myself) panicked about logistics that we really can't control anyway, just remember to exercise your faith and take your Afro on vacation. The Lord knows exactly what to do.
This is an actual picture of me. Okay, it's not.

Awesome! Alex Boye rocks, I love watching and listening to him perform. Thanks for sharing this. Hope you are doing well!
I agree. It was a great fireside. And the part about not being "a how guy" was particularly helpful to me, too. I could have used that advice a lot in the past and can use it now.
